He writes, “Now the only argument for an absolute God that holds water is a transcendental argument … [which] seeks to discover what sort of foundations the house of human knowledge must have, in order to be what it is.”8 To put it briefly, using Van Til’s words, “we reason from the impossibility of the contrary.”9 In The Defense of the Faith, Van Til explains that this is an indirect method of proof, whereby the believer and the unbeliever together think through the implications
